Retiring From Rugby

Retiring from rugby means leaving the structure and consistency that a professional rugby career provides. You go from being in the limelight on a weekly basis and possibly earning the salary of executives three times your age, to no longer being part of the fast-paced world at the top of the game. The challenges are immense.
Contemplate the fact that most sportsmen will spend more of their life as a "former player" than a current one and that over 90% of retired players will need a second career. There are enough challenges in adapting to life after rugby - Knowing how you'll support yourself and your family once the rugby cheques stop will greatly increase the ease of your transition.
It's time to give the future some thought!

52% of players don't feel in control 2 years after retirement

67% of retired players experience some sort of mental health issue.

50% of retired players have financial difficulty within the 1st 5 years after retirement

Will you find your way when the spotlight fades?

We're here to light the way towards a smooth transition into the next chapter of your life

Our approach

When Looking at transition, the support we offer is geared towards the individual.  There's no simple one-size-fits-all approach, because everyone reacts differently to retirement.  We know this because we are ex professionals ourselves.  We believe that considering the individual is crucial when looking at what might be their second career.  After all, only a small number can stay in rugby as coaches or media pundits.  Our approach relies on  a combination of mentoring, business coaching, financial planning and networking to set you up for the smoothest possible transition after a life of Rugby.

demystifying the bigger picture

We help you deep dive into who you really are, your skills, values and motivators. Using this framework we develop a holistic picture of who you are now, ultimately helping you make better decisions in moving towards who you want to become. We won't push you into the first job offer that comes your way. We'll take time to look at multiple industries and to expore what you really want to do.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail

Players who know they are finishing and have started putting measures in place cope better than players who are released or have to retire through injury. Players who are prepared achieve greater than those who are not.

Founded by Filipo levi

In december 2018, filipo levi founded the rugby union business club. The RUBC supports rugby players in their transitioning and starting businesses after a life in sports. RUBC is a metaphor of surrounding a rugby player with mentors and successful business people and entrepreneurs to succeed in life. When the spotlight fades RUBC is filling this gap to continue the team after rugby.

Together we succeed

Transition is for many athletes a struggle to overcome and can take you along time to move on to your next career. Depression and mental struggles are common and one thing I learnt is to reach out and ask for help. Here is a snippet of my talk last year on RUBC. If you are interested to know more or to discuss transition DM for more info. If you are wanting to know more about RUBC and be part of a team to help do let me know.
